What Is a Dental Bridge?

A dental bridge is a fixed restoration that literally "bridges" the gap left by one or more missing teeth. It consists of false teeth (called pontics) held in place by crowns cemented to the natural teeth on either side of the gap.

Unlike removable dentures, a bridge is securely fixed in your mouth. You don't take it out to clean or sleep. It looks, feels, and functions like your natural teeth, allowing you to eat, speak, and smile with complete confidence.

Dental bridges have been used successfully in dentistry for over a century. They remain one of the most reliable, cost-effective ways to replace missing teeth, especially when implants aren't suitable or desired.

Modern bridges are crafted from high quality materials that are colour matched and shaped to blend with your natural teeth as closely as possible.

When Do You Need a Dental Bridge?

A bridge could be the right solution if you're experiencing any of these situations.

Missing tooth from extraction

After a tooth is removed, a bridge closes the gap and prevents surrounding teeth from shifting.

Tooth lost to decay or trauma

Whether from an accident or untreated decay, a bridge restores your complete smile.

Congenitally missing teeth

Some people are born without certain teeth. A bridge provides a long-term solution.

Failed root canal

When a root canal fails and the tooth needs removal, a bridge can replace it.

Upgrading from a partial denture

Tired of removable dentures? A fixed bridge offers long-term comfort.

Restoring your bite

Missing teeth affect how you chew. A bridge restores proper bite function.

We offer several bridge options to suit different situations and budgets.

Benefits of a Dental Bridge

Why many patients choose bridges to replace missing teeth.

Fixed & Long-lasting

Unlike dentures, bridges are cemented in place. No removal, no adhesives, no embarrassment

No Surgery Required

Unlike implants, bridges don't require surgical procedures or healing time

Quick Treatment

Usually completed in just two appointments over 2-3 weeks

Natural Appearance

Custom-crafted porcelain matches your teeth in colour, shape, and translucency

Restore Full Function

Many patients return to a wide range of foods once fitted. Dietary advice may vary depending on your bite and the type of bridge.

Prevent Tooth Drift

Stop remaining teeth from shifting into the gap and causing bite problems

Maintain Face Shape

Missing teeth cause facial collapse over time. A bridge prevents this

Proven Track Record

Bridges have been used successfully in dentistry for over 100 years

Treatment suitability, duration, lifespan, and costs vary between individuals and depend on clinical assessment. A personalised consultation is required before any treatment recommendation.

Actual lifespan depends on factors such as oral hygiene, bite forces, diet, smoking and regular professional care. Your dentist will discuss expected longevity in your case.

Not sure which option is best? Book a free 15-minute consultation and we'll advise based on your specific situation.

Why You Shouldn't Delay Replacing Missing Teeth

When a tooth is missing, problems develop quickly. Adjacent teeth can shift into the gap over time. The opposing tooth over-erupts. Your bite becomes uneven, potentially causing jaw pain. The bone in the gap area begins to shrink. Your face can start to look sunken.

Delaying replacement can reduce options in some cases. Your dentist will advise based on your individual situation.
