What is Composite Bonding?

Composite bonding is a cosmetic dental procedure that involves applying a tooth-coloured composite resin material to the surface of a tooth. The material is shaped and polished to enhance the appearance of the tooth.

It is commonly used to:

  • Repair chipped or cracked teeth
  • Improve uneven edges or tooth shape
  • Close small gaps (diastemas) between teeth
  • Mask mild discolouration
  • Restore teeth worn due to grinding or erosion

It is considered a conservative treatment because it usually requires minimal alteration of natural enamel.

Try Before You Commit

Not Sure? See Your Bonding Result First

Before any composite is bonded, we can fit a Trial Smile: a temporary, tooth-coloured preview shaped over your own teeth to the design you have approved. Nothing is drilled or removed, and it is polished away afterwards. You see the length, shape and proportion in the mirror and in photographs, then decide.

  • Reversible — your teeth remain unchanged
  • Designed to your lip line and face, not a template
  • £250, credited in full against your bonding if you proceed
  • Written, itemised plan with fixed prices before you commit

Subject to clinical assessment. The £250 is non-refundable if you choose not to proceed.

Our Composite Bonding Services in London

At St Paul's Medical & Dental, we understand that every smile is different. We offer tailored bonding options depending on your goals.

Single-Tooth Treatment

Used to correct minor flaws in one tooth such as chips, cracks or staining. Composite resin is applied and contoured to restore the natural appearance of the tooth.

Multi-Tooth Treatment

Ideal for improving multiple teeth that are discoloured, uneven or slightly misaligned. This approach can create a more uniform smile.

Cosmetic Reshaping and Contouring

This treatment can be combined with minor reshaping techniques to refine tooth length, edges or symmetry, helping to enhance overall smile aesthetics.

Repairing Worn Teeth

Teeth worn due to grinding (bruxism) or erosion can be restored using composite resin to rebuild lost structure.

The Composite Bonding Procedure – Step by Step

1

Consultation

Your treatment begins with a detailed assessment at St Paul's Medical & Dental. We discuss your goals and examine your teeth to determine suitability.

2

Tooth Preparation

The tooth surface is gently prepared to help the bonding material adhere securely.

3

Application and Shaping

The composite resin is applied in layers and carefully sculpted to achieve the desired shape.

4

Curing

A special blue curing light is used to harden the material.

5

Polishing

The final step involves polishing the tooth to match the natural sheen of surrounding teeth.

Why Choose Composite Bonding at St Paul's?

A conservative treatment, delivered by GDC-registered cosmetic dentists two minutes from St Paul's station.

Often One Visit, Usually No Injections

Most cases are completed in a single appointment of 30–60 minutes per tooth. Because composite is added rather than enamel removed, anaesthetic is rarely needed.

Minimal Tooth Alteration

Little or no enamel is removed, preserving your natural tooth structure. In many cases the treatment can be reversed or refined later.
