Why "£49 whitening" is a false economy
In the UK it is illegal for anyone other than a GDC-registered dental professional to supply whitening containing more than 0.1% hydrogen peroxide. Beauty salons, kiosks and most online kits are therefore either far too weak to work, or operating unlawfully with no dental check first. Either way you risk paying twice.
Our £199 course is prescribed by a dentist after an examination, uses professional-strength Boutique gel in trays made for your teeth, and comes with a review. It is regulated by the General Dental Council and our practice is registered with the Care Quality Commission.
What Affects the Price?
Whitening is one of the simplest prices in dentistry, but a few things change what you'll actually spend.
Home vs in-chair systems
We use the Boutique dentist-supervised home system. Custom trays and professional-strength gel over 1–2 weeks give results comparable to in-chair "laser" whitening, without the £500–£800 price or the higher sensitivity that a single strong session often causes.
Whether you are a new or existing patient
New patients pay £199 for whitening (usually £399) and £30 for the examination that must come first. Existing patients who have had a check-up in the last 12 months can go straight to tray impressions.
Membership
Whitening is an eligible treatment, so members pay £199 as standard and £12.50 for top-up gel — useful if you like to refresh before events.
Starting shade and stain type
Yellow-toned staining from tea, coffee and age responds best. Grey or tetracycline staining may need a longer course (extra gel at £25 a syringe) or a different approach such as bonding or veneers. Your dentist will be honest about what whitening can achieve for you.
Cleaning first
Surface stain and tartar block the gel. A hygiene visit (£49 for new patients) before whitening makes the result more even and is usually money well spent.
Existing dental work
Crowns, veneers, bonding and fillings do not whiten. If you have visible restorations at the front, we discuss whether they will need replacing to match — that would be quoted separately, never assumed.

Whitening Before Bonding or Veneers
Composite and porcelain don't whiten, so if you're planning a smile makeover the order matters: whiten first, then match the new work to your brighter shade. Book whitening two weeks before bonding — or choose the Ten Teeth bonding package, which includes it.
