Comprehensive Sexual Health Screening in the City of London
Regular sexual health screening is recommended as part of routine healthcare for sexually active individuals. The British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH) and NHS guidelines advise testing after each new sexual partner or at least annually for those with ongoing risk factors. Our screening packages are designed to provide broad coverage of the most clinically significant sexually transmitted infections in a single appointment.
Each screening package combines multiple laboratory tests processed by a UKAS-accredited laboratory. Depending on the package selected, testing may include nucleic acid amplification testing (NAAT) for bacterial infections such as chlamydia and gonorrhoea, serological assays for HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis, and molecular methods for infections including mycoplasma genitalium and trichomonas. All testing methods are aligned with current BASHH clinical guidance.
Sexually transmitted infections frequently present without symptoms. UKHSA data demonstrates that a significant proportion of chlamydia, gonorrhoea, and HIV diagnoses are made in individuals who were asymptomatic at the time of testing. Screening is therefore an important tool for early detection, enabling timely treatment and reducing onward transmission within the community.

- Men who have sex with men (MSM), where more frequent screening is clinically recommended
- Those who have had unprotected sex with a new partner or multiple partners
- Individuals returning from travel who have had sexual contact abroad
- Anyone experiencing symptoms such as unusual discharge, discomfort, sores, or rashes in the genital area
Preparing for Your Screening Appointment
If the package includes a urine test, avoid urinating for at least one hour before your appointment
No fasting or dietary restrictions are required for any component of the screen
Be prepared to discuss your recent sexual history briefly with the nurse, so the most appropriate samples can be collected
If you have active sores, blisters, or lesions, inform the nurse — additional swab testing may be recommended
Allow approximately 15–20 minutes for your appointment, as multiple samples may be collected
